Communication with Markers
Below is an example of an “Instructions to Markers” template used by some programme teams. It’s important to clearly outline every step markers need to follow, and include all relevant links required to access and complete their marking session(s).
These links may include:
Test
?
-
A link to the student submission portal (Blackboard or Insendi)
All markers need to be added to the module before access can be granted. If you’re unable to locate this page, contact your programme administrator or teaching fellow for assistance. This link is not needed if markers are not required to access student submissions for the assessment(s) being marked (e.g. exams, oral presentations, etc.). In such cases, specify what markers are expected to assess and when or where they can access this information.

Instruction to markers template (please amend and share accordingly):
Step 1 – Turnitin authentication:
To access student submissions within MedLearn, you must first add the Turnitin submission class for the assessment(s) you are marking to your Turnitin profile.
This can be done by logging in to Blackboard or Insendi (depending on where students have submitted their assessment) and loading up the page containing the Turnitin submission portal for that specific assessment.
This step only needs to be completed once – the first time you access an assessment on any module.
- Please log in to Blackboard or Insendi using the link below:
- Provide link for markers to open
- Please navigate to the Turnitin submission area for the assessment that you are marking, or use the direct link below:
- Provide link for markers to open
Once the Turnitin portal has loaded up, the page can be closed.
Step 2 – MedLearn access and authentication:
- Open MedLearn via the link below and click ‘My Marking’ at the top menu:
- Provide link for markers to open
- Locate the assessment you are marking and click ‘View my marking’ to open the list of students allocated to you.
- IMPORTANT: Click the green ‘Log into Turnitin’ button at the top of the page.
- Once logged into Turnitin, open any of the listed classes to access a submission class. Please note:
- Ensure you are getting recognised by Turnitin as an Instructor, not a Student. You can check your status in the top-right hand corner of the page, between Messages and Language buttons.
- If shown as a student, click ‘Student‘ and select ‘Instructor’ from the the drop-down menu. If you cannot see this option, follow the instructions here on changing your role from Student to Instructor.
- You can now return to MedLearn and click ‘Mark student’ to open each submission allocated to you.
- The submission should now appear under the ‘Submission’ tab. You can enter marks and feedback into the ‘Marking form’ tab. The marks and feedback you enter is saved automatically.
