MedLearn Menu redesign, Summer 2025

Based on student and staff feedback we have rebuilt the MedLearn menu and navigation structure and this will be be released torwards the end of August.Here are the changes being made and the rationale behind those changes.The current MedLearn navigation is overly complicated There are actually 6 individual menus within MedLearn:

• The 'Black Bar' that is consistant across all sites, wherever you are within the network
• The 'Global Links' flyout (accessibly by clicking the pink globe icon)
• The bottom footer navigation
• The 'My Profile' flyout menu
• The root 'MedLearn' menu for staff and students e.g. My Placements, My Tutor etc
• The 'Side menu' that replaces the 'MedLearn' Menu on all subsites

Ultimately, this causes confusion and breaks an important rule of navigation, namely "Maintain a consistent structure: Use the same menu style and placement throughout the website." Changes being made

1. The Staff / Student side menu is being moved to the top
   1. This menu will now be available on any page in the MedLearn network
   2. Menu items collapse into items on mobile
   3. This gives most MedLearn tutor and portfolio pages the full width of the screen
2. The Global Links items are being moved to the footer
   1. These menu items were previously hidden and it was no obvious this was even a link
3. Key items such as 'My Marking' and 'My Tutor' will always be visible if you have access to those pages
